Chapter 5
I.History of Cytology
A.Microscopic Study 1)Early in the 16000's Vam Leewenhoiok=credited with the first microscope
2)1665 Robert Hooke develoed a compound (more then one lens) microscope and observed the cork layer of the bark from an oak tree. Hookie is credited with using the term cells.

B.Cell Theory
1)Schleiden (botanist) and Schwann (zoologist) cell theory.
2)Cell Theory
a)All plants and are composed of cells.
b)All animals are composed of cells. All living things are composed of cells.
c)Cells are the basic structures of all living.

II. Types of Cells
A. Nuclested cells-Eukaryotic
B. Unnucleated-Prokaryotic

ORGANELLES

A. Types of Organelles
1)Plasma Membrane-Selectively permeable; composed of two layers called Phospholipid Bilayer (found in everything(po4))
2)Cell Wall-Found in plant cells only. Made up of only cellulose, surrounds membrane(turgor pressure)
3)Nucleus-Center of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons. Information or control center of a cell. Controls all activities. Has DNA. Has a membreane around it and envelope has nuclear pores-allows macromolecules to pass through. MRNA-Messanger to the Cytoplasm to make proteins.
4)
